- - posted in General: Us mac gamers don't always have a huge selection of games to play on steam so I have been doing some reacherch and found something about steam wrappers. I know that they let you play most games on steam and pay for them the same way. But things that have stopped me from downloading one is that I don't know if steam allows these wrappers. So I was wondering.
- Have your wrappers stopped working on your Macintosh after you installed Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 or Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11? - What is old is new again!. El Capitan requires Wineskin 2.6.1 + to work. Only a handful of wrappers on the site have been updated.
- I recently bought the Tom Clancy bundle from the Humble Store thinking I could download the games through Steam. (I have a Steam wrapper allowing me to play PC steam games on my mac). However after buying the games I was shown the only download options were through Uplay. Uplay has no mac support whatsoever, and I now have no access to my new.
ANNO 1602 A.D. (just re-released digital on GOG.om) takes you into the world of construction strategy games. Build a realistic, living world for yourself according to your own ideas; your chosen strategy will decide the development and destiny of your towns and villages. Prove your diplomatic skills in your dealings with natives, your comrades and pirates too. Start by building up farms, plantations and small workshops to produce, then use your business acumen and begin to generate trade with your fellow players. I tested ANNO 1602 A.D. a for a while in the Portingkit and it seems to work just fine on my Nvidia 64om iMac.
Download steamwrapper.dll version 32bit. Download DLL, OCX and VXD files for windows for free. Several thouthands files available.
I made the port available as Crosstie and for the Portingkit. So for the basic instructions for the Portingkit installation go here… and to learn more about Crossover go here…
Get the file on the server tab of the Portingkit here… or if you use Crossover the Crosstie here… (follows in a few days)

I wanted to make a seperate post for a work around for the Steam client issue with the latest update. Thanks John for the config file tip!
It is possible to stop Steam updating to the latest version. To do this create a text file containing the following text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
Save the file as ‘Steam.cfg’ and put it in the steam folder of your wrapper doing: rightclick the specific Steam wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> navigate to the Steam folder and (re)place the file into the Steam wrapper and then launch Steam.. This needs to be done before you run Steam for the first time. If Steam had already updated itself then use a backup wrapper if you have one. So again this fix will only work if the Steam client isn’t updated yet.

Don’t want to redownload the whole game again? Rightclick wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder to the desktop and trash the old wrapper. Then Rightclick the “new” wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder into the Steam folder + the steam.cfg file and then launch the wrapper and you should be able to play without re-downloading anything again. We will meanwhile update the Steam wrappers where possible.
