Arts and Crafts Uses
This type of paper got its name from its use in printing bonds and legal documents, but now it is used in a wide variety of arts and crafts. It can be used to create model airplanes, for example. Bond paper is also used to make drawing pads and easel paper for use with a variety of media including crayons, pencils, colored markers, and paint. It is available in white, as well as pastel and bright colors such as blue, buff, canary, lemon yellow, red, salmon, and watermelon, giving it added versatility for cutting and pasting projects, such as Christmas ornaments and cut-out snowflake decorations.

Office bond is available in 500-sheet reams in letter or legal size and in a variety of weights and brightnesses. It is available in environmentally friendly versions, including partially recycled or 100% recycled options. Components of 100% recycled bond may be, for example, 25% cotton, 30% post-consumer waste, and 45% pre-consumer waste. Partially recycled paper may contain, for example, 50% virgin fiber and 50% recycled material in the form of 25% cotton, 15% post-consumer waste, and 10% recovered waste fibers.
Where Does It Fit in With Other Papers?

Paper weight is described in various ways. One system uses point sizes that measure the thickness of a single sheet in thousandths of an inch. Basis weight takes a measurement in pounds of the weight of 500 sheets of the standard size of the paper, but because the size of different types of paper is not consistent, comparing basis weights is complicated. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) paper industry standard, which measures weight in grams per square meter (gsm), is deemed the most consistent paper weight system for comparisons between paper types. Bond paper is in the medium textweight range.
10–35 gsm | tissue paper |
35–70 gsm | lighter textweight |
70–100 gsm | medium textweight, including bond |
100–120 gsm | heavy textweight/light cardstock |
120-150 gsm | regular cardstock |
150-200 gsm | heavy cardstock |
200 gsm | super heavy cardstock |

A tarpapel (coined from ‘tarpaulin’ and ‘papel’ which is Filipino for paper) is a low-cost alternative to tarpaulin printing. You don’t only save money but also help reduce garbage as bond papers decompose faster than tarpaulins. If you intend to use the tarpaulin for a shorter period then a tarpapel would be your best option.
Using Microsoft Publisher 2013
Short Bond Paper Size In Google Docs
- Prepare your image for printing. Take note of its dimensions (use inches). This tarpaulin is equal to 24 inches by 48 inches.
- Open Microsoft Publisher and select More Blank Page Sizes.
- Click Create New Page Size.
- A window will pop-up. Set the Height and Width to your tarpaulins size. If the measurements are displayed in centimeters include “in” after the number (ex. 24 in). Publisher will automatically convert it to cm. Leave the margins as they are for it is unnecessary. After you’re finished click OK.
- Your new page size will be under the Custom sizes. Click Create.
- Go to Insert Tab and click Pictures command.
- Choose your tarpaulin design and click Insert.
- Right-click on the image you just inserted and choose Apply to Background > Fill.
- Press Delete key to remove the image you inserted since you’ll be printing the background.
- Go to File Tab to open Backstage View.
- Click Print and set it to Tiled.
- Choose a Paper Size. Note: Letter is the short size bond paper in the Philippines. Do not use the Legal setting since Philippine legal size bond paper (also called long bond paper – 8.5 in. x 13 in.) is not the same as US legal size (8.5 in. x 14 in.). Microsoft Publisher doesn’t support printing on a custom page size so using a long bond paper is a waste of printable paper space.
- Choose between Portrait or Landscape. Choose the orientation that uses the least amount of paper.
- When you’re done. Click Print.

An advantage for this method is that it is quick. However, its disadvantages include not being able to set the paper size to PH legal size (long size), when the printing gets interrupted, you may have to print each tile individually (which would take long) or reprint all, you cannot set the margins on each tile so you can have enough space for gluing the papers together, and there might be some areas that would not be printed due to mismatch with the printer’s printable area.
